Côtes du Rhône

Tasting Notes

The origins of Côtes du Rhône wine can be traced back to the region's early history of viticulture. The Greeks began growing grapes in Marseille centuries before the Romans arrived. The Romans continue the expansion of vineyards in that region during their rule and the church continued the viticulture for centuries. In the mid 17th century, the district of Côte du Rhône had issued regulations to govern the quality of its wine and the viticulture continued to modern day. Today, Côtes du Rhône is one of the most versatile and approachable red wines in France, built primarily on Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre.

🎯 Overall Character - Côtes du Rhône is best described as fruity, spicy, and herbal. Red and black fruit aromas and flavours complemented with Mediterranean spice and herbs. A Mediterranean red that is warm and versatile.

🍒 On the Nose (Aromatics) - Côtes du Rhône has pronounced aromas of red fruit, black fruit, spice, earth and herbal notes. Raspberry, plum, strawberry and blackberry complement the bouquet of black pepper, baking spice, dried herbs, and earth. These traits align with the Rhône Valley’s warm climate and Grenache‑based blends.

🍷 On the Palate - Most Côtes du Rhône reds are dry, medium to full body, moderate tannins and moderate acidity. Alcohol levels are elevated due to the warm climate and typically between 12.5-15% ABV. The tannins are round and soft on the palate and the texture is supple, juicy and often plush. Primary flavours in the wine are warm ripe fruit; raspberry, plum and strawberry complemented with spice and Mediterranean herbs; rosemary, thyme and sage.
