Nero d’Avola
Tasting Notes
Nero d'Avolo wine is deeply rooted in Sicily's winemaking heritage. The grape's origins can be traced back to ancient times, with evidence of its cultivation dating back to the Phoenician era and further connections to Greek and Roman colonization. Nero d'Avolo was introduced by Ancient Greek colonists in the 8th century BC and thrived in the sun-baked southeastern Sicily. Today it is Sicily’s flagship red grape, fruit driven characteristics with a distinctly Mediterranean soul.
🎯 Overall Character - Nero d’Avola is best described as bold, dark‑fruited, spicy, and Mediterranean. A full body red wine with power and flavour complexity.
🍒 On the Nose (Aromatics) - An aromatic profile with dark fruit and warm, savory notes of Black cherry, prune, Plum and cherry. In more structured examples, notes of Violets, mocha, and earthy cherry. These aromas shift depending on altitude and ripeness. Warmer sites give richer fruit; higher elevations add minerality.
